Substitute Training and Preparation Individuals recommended by a county in RESA 6 for training to become a substitute, participate in sessions that prepare them to more effectively work with youngsters in the classroom. The sessions are designed to model a myriad of effective instructional and classroom organizational strategies. Child development is stressed to enable substitutes to identify and incorporate age-appropriate instructional strategies and discipline techniques. Focused classroom observations are also included as part of the training.
Classes for renewal are also available that provide 12 hours of instruction. The topics covered include classroom management, teaching content, Content Standards and Objectives, and interdisciplinary instruction. With approval from the county, substitutes may complete the hours needed for renewal.
